Hi, my name is Gretchen and this is a blog about my lifes journey! As of today, I am 8 weeks old. I am a purebred, dark sable, German Shepherd Dog or GSD for short. I come from West German and Czechoslovakian (Czech) working lines, which to sum it up, I'm a bit crazy! Mom says I'm a goof because I was also born on April Fools Day! Mom loves me anyways though and while these 2 weeks have already been quite eventful mom decided to keep a blog of all my milestones and achievements in life and to share all my cute pictures with you guys of course!!! So here it is, this is me and my life! :)
I guess for the first post I should explain up until this point and as I carry on with the blog, I'll update with everything that happens.
4/23/2012 (3w/1d)
It all started when my mom found me, she'd been looking for a working line GSD and I fit the bill apparently.
This was me at only 3 weeks and 1 day old! Mom loved me from the start! :)

This is me only 2 weeks later at 5 weeks old when mom came for a visit.
She said I'd grown a bit! Lol!
Here I am hugging moms legs!
Here is a family portrait of me with mom and me leading the pack of my 2 siblings!
(Both solid blacks like our dad, as you can see, I take after my dog mom in color!)
5/13/2012 (Mothers Day! - Exactly 6 weeks old)
Here are some pictures from my first day with mom!
Mom says this is one of her favorite pictures of me! Got to love Instagram! ;)
5/15/2012 (Heading home! 6w/2d old)
I actually was picked up and traveled to South Carolina when I came home from the breeders, but mom and I actually live in North Carolina!
Mom says I did great riding on the way home! I just cuddled up against her and my stuffed lamb and slept most of the ride.
Soon as I got home, mom realized that I was quite the fan of the TV! I love to sit and watch whatever is on.

Here I am at my first visit to the vet! Boy was I worn out!
(Yes, mom was close enough to catch me if I started to roll over!)
I got my first set of vaccinations, they did a fecal exam, deworming, urinalysis and an ear cytology on me. As cute as I am, this was the first step in learning a couple sad things about me. :( During my exam, I was found to have 2 ear infections, a grade 2 heart murmur and a case of tapeworms though I was cleared for all other parasites. I also was cleared of the UTI mom thought I had. I weighed in at 8.1 pounds!
I spent the next 10 days on ear medications for the ear infections and was told to "wait it out" on the heart murmur before we go any further since sometimes puppies have them but will grow out of them as they age.

Just some random, outdoor pictures! :)
Watching Maggie (Mastiff/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix) below the porch.
Found some dried wax on the porch, decided it was a great toy to scratch at. Lol!
Hangin with Maggie!
Showing how she goes DOWN the stairs.
Showing how she comes UP the stairs.
And of course, just being cute. ;)
I also introduced her to the Almost Indestructible Ball! She's still a little small for it but she'll grow into it and considering her reaction to it, I'm sure she'll have a BLAST with it when she's older!
(Unfortunatly, I can't find a link to where you can buy these now but
http://www.amazon.com/Hueter-Toledo-Inc-Best-Ball/dp/B0002DI32C is about as close as it gets :/ I got mine from Petsmart about 3 years ago. It's basically a big plastic ball that can be left light or you can add sand or water for added weight to make your dog work harder to get it around)
My first bath. Was not a fan, lets just put it that way.
Finally free from the tub!!
I was also introduced to my "big girl kennel", mom says I'll grow into it, just like I'll grow into everything else! Lol!
5/20/2012 (7 weeks old!)
My first ear popped up!!

SILLY FACE!!!
And a picture with mom! <3
(That IS my happy face!)

Another day at the vets office! :/
Due to some poor gaiting issues mom was seeing, she took me back to the vet for a neuro exam and another ear cytology to make sure my ear infection was gone and that nothing neurological was throwing off my balance. Thankfully, my ear infection was gone and nothing seemed out of the ordinary (Still have my heart murmur though! ):) besides the vet said I had thickened knees for my age. :/ She said to give it some time and see if the gait continues to be an issue. So far, I'm getting better so pretty sure it was the ear infection throwing me off. I weighed in at 9.8 pounds this time! That's just under 2lb of growth in only 8 days!!)
I had also spent the day out "socializing" before my appointment. We went to get the car cleaned and the oil changed and I got to go in the buildings and hang out, I was a good girl the whole time! :) No pictures though! :(
5/26/2012 (7w/6d old)
My first trip to the ice cream shop! :D After walking around the park for a bit (No pics! ):) we decided it was quite hot out and that ice cream was a good plan! Mom had pecan praline but I was only allowed vanilla! It was good either way though!
So yummy! I wanted more!!
Afterwards, I went to my moms friends house and met my first kitty!!! There were big kitties and there were small kitties! I preferred the small ones, they seemed less threatening.
5/27/2012 (8 weeks old!)
The other ear is already up!!!
Naughty girl trying to get into a new bag of food before her last bag is even gone! Gretchen says "I know it opens from this end!!"
Giving Maggie some love!
Last night she did give me a scare, she grabbed (but didn't eat/hurt) a frog while on a potty trip and she started foaming at the mouth and shaking her head!! I was terrified that she was poisoned but apparently not. Apparently they do have a bit of a poison they release but it's not enough to hurt her if she just grabbed it for a second and the foaming/shaking was just a reaction to trying to get the taste out of her mouth. Once we rinsed her mouth out, she was ok. As you can see from the above pictures, she is doing fine and crazy as ever! Hopefully she learned her lesson about not putting frogs in her mouth!
Unknown dates, just enjoy the cuteness of a sleeping puppy!! :)
A little dark to see but I actually fell asleep with my head on my Kong!
There is my story from 6 weeks until 8 weeks so far. I will continue to update this blog as the days go by and my baby grows up. I hope you enjoy watching her grow as much as I do!
Wish us luck on this fun journey we call life! :)
